Tired of the same old survey sites? So are we. That’s why we got a little bit excited when we found one that’s different from the rest (we live for this kind of thing).
UserTesting works with companies who want brutally honest, no holes barred feedback on their clients products. Whether it’s gleaming feedback or a ranty review, it’s all welcome.
As a tester, you’ll provide in-depth, actionable feedback that UserTesting can relay back to their clients so they can improve. And, of course – you’ll earn some cash at the end.
Sound good? Let’s take a closer look.
What do you need to get started?
To be a tester, you’ll need a PC or Mac with a screen recorder (which can be downloaded as a browser extension), along with a webcam and a working mic.
Signing up is simple. Just visit usertesting.com, enter your email address, hit apply and complete a practice test to get approved. It’s free, and the practice test only takes around 10 minutes to complete.
Once you have signed up and been approved, there’s no delay – you’ll start receiving email notifications about test opportunities, so you can start earning straight away.
How much will you earn?
You’ll get paid a flat rate of $10 for each test you complete. These consist of a 20-minute recording of your opinions and feedback.
You can also get up to $120 for a video conference call with a customer – this is what makes UserTesting unique as a review site. You can cut out the middle-man and talk directly with the customer about their product.
Payment is made by PayPal and you’ll need to wait for UserTesting to approve these payments. Approval takes 7 days, but you’ll know exactly how much you’re going to get beforehand – just check your online wallet.
How easy is it to do?
In fairness, this is one of the easiest ways to complete a survey. But it’s time-consuming. A test is made up of a 20 minute recording, and then an additional 10-15 minutes to answer follow-up questions on top of that.
The video calls require you to be available at a scheduled date and time. The duration of the calls will vary depending on how much you have to say, and how many questions they want to ask. But remember: extra effort is rewarded with extra money.
Who is it suited to?
UserTesting is suited to anyone who is more of a talker than a typer. The more you have to say about the product the better!
You’ll need a fair bit of spare time to complete the tests, and if you want to maximise your earning potential, you’ll take part in the video conferences. Spending time on these is more lucrative than the shorter 20-minute tests.
Advantages
- You can earn more by doing video conferences
- Work when and where you like with the shorter tests
- You always know in advance how much you will be paid
Disadvantages
- Payments take 7 days to reach you
- You need to have a working mic and a screen recorder downloaded
- Sometimes there may be no tests available that suit you
Conclusion
You can earn much more with UserTesting compared to other review sites, especially if you take part in the video conference calls.
We’re not saying that it doesn’t come without some hard work, but if you can spare some time, it’s a nice little side earner.
