What is the Elite Racing Club?

The Elite Racing Club claims to be Britain’s leading horse racing club. The website says they have an average of 25 horses, maintained over breeding and training regimes.

You pay a monthly fee to get a share of a horse for the length of your subscription. This on the face of it does not sound like a great investment and more of a ‘lifestyle’ product.

How does the Elite Racing Club Work?

The idea is that subscribing to Elite Racing Club allows you to experience the thrill of seeing “your” horses racing on the track. It also brings to you a chance of winning a prize (well, a share in the prize) if they are successful.

If you are lucky enough, you may even get a chance to attend race meetings and visit stables.

Not exactly a goal of mine, but I know others will like the ‘glamour’ of it all, so let’s look closer

Once you subscribe to the club, you will receive a welcome pack. This consists of your welcome card and two latest magazines of the club. Plus, there some other publications.

These are ‘Horses in Training’ which is published twice a year and the ‘Breeding Programme’ which is delivered annually.

You will also receive the Elite Racing Club magazines weekly.

Other than that, it is just a case of applying to see your horse at some point, which doesn’t look that easy.

How long does it take to use the Elite Racing Club?

You can actually apply to visit when one of their horses runs, but the chances of getting a badge are rare.

The club also organises stable visits, but again, with over 20000 members in the club, it is very less likely that you will get a chance to visit.

So, if you are joining because you think you are going to the parade ring every week, you will all be disappointed. The same thing goes if you think you can watch the horses being trained whenever you want.

To the cynical, this seems like taking part in a raffle to see what you’ve already paid for.

How much can you make with Elite Racing Club?

In the unlikely event that one of the clubs horses turns out to be the next Shergar, your ‘winnings’ are unlikely to be that much. As I mentioned above, the appeal of this is more based around the thrill of racehorse ownership, rather than making a profit.

How much does the Elite Racing Club cost?

You get two payment options- annually and quarterly.

It will cost you £199 per year if you decide to pay for a year at once, the full amount being payable the start of the membership period.

You can make payments in quarterly instalments to spread the cost. The cost is then £52.25 per quarter.

Paying quarterly adds up to an extra 0£10 over paying all at once.

Is the Elite Racing Club easy to use?

There is nothing to do here really except read the magazines and wait for your chance to see the horses run or train. Of course, you do get the ‘excitement’ of seeing how your horse is doing. This could add an extra dimension to just watching the racing on TV.

Elite Racing Club Advantages

If you love horse racing and have always dreamed about owning one, there is much to like here. The weekly contact will make you feel part of what goes on, and the information you get from the publications will be of interest.

The process of being involved, even slightly, in something you are really into ticks all those boxes. The cost is quite affordable as indulgences go, and there is always the chance you could be one of the lucky members who gets ‘drawn’ for a visit.

Elite Racing Club Disadvantages

Unless you’re really into this, you don’t get a lot for your money. If you are joining this to make money, you will be disappointed. You might even think that what you’re actually getting is a very expensive magazine subscription. But then again, if you weren’t really into the idea of owning a racehorse, you wouldn’t be looking at this in the first place.

Elite Racing Club Review Conclusion and Overall Rating

If you are really lucky, the prize money might cover your membership. Any prize money needs to be shared among thousands of members.

At the end of the day, this is not really a realistic way of making extra money, even compared to betting. But then, I’m not sure that is what people who are involved with this, wanted in the first place.

If you want the thrill of ‘owning’ a racehorse, even if it is the smallest part of one, this is for you. Although the chances of actually seeing any of the horses in the flesh is actually quite slim, it’s slim worth your money.

If you intend on going into this as an investment, hoping to reap the massive rewards of horserace ownership the expense, you’ll be wasting your money.
