What is Receipt Hog and how does it work?
Every time you go shopping, you’re given a little slip of paper which most of us just throw away– but did you know you can use it to make money?
Using an app called Receipt Hog, you can simply scan your shopping receipts and for each receipt you upload, you are given a reward in coins. Once you’ve saved up enough coins, you can then exchange them for either Amazon vouchers or withdraw as cash via PayPal. Easy money.
What do you need to get started?
All you need to get started with Receipt Hog is a smartphone with a camera. Simply download the Receipt Hog app from your app store, sign up with an account in minutes and get scanning.
It doesn’t cost you anything to get started. The app is free to download and it’s also free when you sign up. We love a pure profit opportunity.
How much will you earn?
Now, this isn’t something that’s going to earn you enough to pay off your mortgage or student loan but for the sake of scanning something you would usually just throw away – any money you make from it is a bonus.
Tip: the higher your purchases on the receipt, the more coins you will earn from them. So, make sure you keep hold of those big spender receipts, and maybe borrow some from your friends too.
To save you a job, I have done the maths and here is the amount of coins you need to collect to withdraw:
Amazon Vouchers:
- £3 – 1,000 coins
- £10 – 2,850 coins
- £20 – 5,300 coins
- £50 – 12,000 coins
For Paypal Cash:
- £5 – 1,500 coins
- £10 – 2,850 coins
- £20 – 5,300 coins
- £50 – 12,00 coins
On top of the coins, your scanned receipts will also give you an entry into the monthly sweepstake draw where you could win an extra 5,000 coins.
How easy is it to do?
No experience is needed. Receipt Hog can be done on the go and each scan only takes a few seconds so it doesn’t require a lot of effort. You can either scan your receipts as you get them or collect a few over the week and scan them all in one go.
The process for uploading receipts is pretty easy once you get the hang of it, each photo needs to show the store name, the items you’ve bought, the prices, the total and the date. Some may need more than one photo if it’s a long receipt, but this is all explained in the app.
They aren’t too fussy about where the receipts come from either, you can upload pretty much any paper receipt from major retailers, local businesses or even corner shops.
Who is it suited to?
Receipt Hog is suited to anyone, especially those who have a purse or wallet full of receipts you could be making extra money from.
It’s great for those who spend regularly on the high street, as unfortunately, online receipts can’t be used on this app. And, Christmas would be a great time to get started with this. We all spend a bit too much at Christmas and could do with earning some back.
Advantages
- Easy to do – the app is so simple to follow.
- Free – it doesn’t cost anything to do.
- Flexible – you can upload whenever you have a free moment.
Disadvantages
- Long game – it will take time to collect enough coins to make a withdrawal.
- Small profit – you do need to collect a large number of coins to get any serious money.
- Restrictions – you can only be paid via Amazon or Paypal.
Conclusion
As we’ve said, using this app won’t make you an overnight millionaire but for the sake of a minute taking photos and clicking upload for an extra few quid in your pocket, it is definitely worth giving it a try.
