Air Time Rewards Review: Shopping for Rewards

We know, we know – there are countless shopping reward schemes out there and, with most of them, you need to put in a lot of effort to actually get anything.  From those where you need to photograph and upload your receipts to the ones which require you to shop via their site, reward schemes can be fiddly, time-consuming and, just plain annoying.  As dedicated followers of bargains, we’re constantly on the lookout for ways to save the folding and, today, we’re turning our attention to Air Time Rewards.

Air Time Rewards, you say?

Launched in 2016, Air Time Rewards allows users to save money on their phone bill just by shopping at a number of well-known stores and restaurants including Morrisons, Waitrose, TopShop, Argos, Halfords, and Pizza Express.

Yes, but how does it work?

It’s actually really simple – pop over to their website and hand over the usual contact stuff as well as your Visa or Mastercard details.  Once you’ve completed your registration and downloaded the app, your payment card will be linked to your account.  Once you’re all set up, all you need to do is shop at participating stores and restaurants as you normally would and, make sure that you pay with the card which is linked to your account.  The app will then keep track of your transactions and add these to your account.  You can then use your Air Time Rewards balance to get cash off your mobile phone bill.

Hold the phone, how much will I save?

Your phone bill savings will absolutely depend on how often you shop and, how much you spend – needless to say, the more you spend, the more Air Time Rewards you’ll rack up.   As a general rule, savings are made as follows:

When shopping in stores such as Waitrose, you’ll receive around 1% of the spend from Air Time Rewards.  Obviously, this means that the more you spend, the more you save – most Air TIme Rewards users say that they say around £3 on each mobile phone bill through regular use of the app.

The pros and cons

There are, of course, ups and downs to Air Time Rewards but, to be honest, they’re mostly ups.  Let’s take a look at them:

Up in the air

Free to use – Air Time Rewards doesn’t charge a single penny for using the app

Convenient – As the app is linked to your phone and your payment card, you don’t actually have to do anything to collect rewards.

Savings – When used regularly, you can make real savings on your phone bill – which is a welcome treat for our nation of phone lovers.

Down in the dumps

Limited sources – At present, Air Time Rewards is only available for use in a limited range of stores and restaurants.

Shop til you drop – In order to collect a decent amount of points, you do need to shop fairly regularly with a reasonably high spend.

Is Air Time Rewards for me?

To be honest, if you have a phone – and you also shop and eat at restaurants, there’s no real downside to downloading the Air Time Rewards app.  The app is a really convenient and easy way to make sneaky savings on your phone with a pretty low amount of effort.
